Born on 1st February, 1955 at Midnapur (East) District of West Bengal, Shri M.P. Dikshit graduated in Mining Engineering from Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad - the Premier Institution of the Country. He passed his 1st Class Mine Manager Certificate of Competency in the year 1981.
Mr. Dikshit joined Bharat Coking Coal Limited (A Subsidiary of Coal India Limited) in the year February-1976 and worked in different subsidiaries of Coal India in various capacities for over 32 years, holding responsible positions like Colliery Manager, Project Officer, Dy. General Manager/ Addl. General Manager, General Manager/Chief General Manager , Director (Technical) besides serving in Research and Development jobs on Strata Control and Mine Subsidence for around two-and-half years.
He secured top position and got Institute Medal while obtaining B.Tech Degree in Mining Engineering from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad and was also awarded with the prestigious Best Studentâ Shield amongst students of all disciplines of the Institute in the year 1981.
He has to his credit the implementation of Jhanjra Project successful Longwall operation in 1989-90, Implementation of Sarpi Project in 2000-01 in ECL and commissioning of Kanchan Opencast Project in 2005 in SECL. He underwent specialized training in UK under Colombo Plan in 1986 on Strata Control in Coal Mining and in Australia in the year 1996 on Coal Technology & Mining. He also visited many countries like USA, Russia, Belarus, UK & Australia at different points of time on official assignment.
Shri Dikshit was selected for many awards during the course of work for his distinguished contributions in professional fields. He published over 30 technical papers on Operational Experiences and on New Technology in the field of Mining Engineering in various National/International Seminars, Symposiums and Journals of repute. He is also pursuing his studies in the field of Thick Seam UG Mining Technology and Geo-mining conditions prevailing in the Indian Coalfields. He is also member of a number of reputed professional organizations.
Mr. Dikshit was holding the post of Director (Technical) (Projects and Planning) shouldering the responsibility of Project Planning & Implementation, Procurement of equipment & materials, Civil Construction works, Environmental aspects, Acquisition of Land etc etc in SECL, a Subsidiary of Coal India Limited prior to his appointment as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of SECL.
Mr. Dikshit has been appointed to the post of Chairman-cum-Managing Director of South Eastern Coalfields Limited and he has taken over the charge of this coveted post on 1st August, 2008.
