Cairn India’s Rajasthan block accounted for 23% of India’s domestic crude production in FY2015. The block’s key assets are the Mangala, Bhagyam, Aishwariya and Raageshwari oil and gas fields.
Since the first barrel produced in 2009, the block has delivered more than 300 million barrels to the nation and provided the company with an opportunity to put Rajasthan on the global oil and gas map. The Rajasthan block crossed a cumulative production of 300 million barrels of oil equivalent in the second quarter of 2015, all credit to its application of inventive technology.
Cairn India has been a pioneer in technology application in the Indian oil and gas space. When faced with flow assurance challenge in evacuating waxy crude from its Barmer block, Cairn India built the world’s longest continuously heated and insulated pipeline which would keep the crude above its wax appearance temperature throughout the length of 700 kms and deliver it to buyers in Gujarat.
Cairn is also leveraging horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing to unlock oil and gas from its tight reservoirs in Rajasthan Block.
It also applied micro-seismic hydrofrac monitoring technology and completed multistage fraccing of wells with encouraging results.
