Clocking a production of 16.05 MT in 2009–10 from its captive mines, the Raw Materials Division (RMD) of SAIL met total iron ore requirement for SAIL’s steel plant in the eastern sector of the country.

Over and above RMD supplied, 2,18,000 T of iron ore fines to Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), Vishakhapatnam. In addition to that, 19,000 T of iron ore lump was supplied to Visvesvarayya Iron & Steel Plant (VISL), Bhadravati, and 26,000 T of manganese ore was sent to Maharashtra Elektrosmelt Limited (MEL), Chandrapur. RMD also supplied 86,000 T of iron ore fines to Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), which was also not part of the annual plan.
RMD’s venture on Manganese Ore production at Gua Ore Mine also resulted 31,000 T production. It has also started mining operation in Hill No. 3 of Kiriburu Iron Ore Mine. This new block has over 28 MT of proven reserve with high degree of Fe (Iron) content. This will help in increasing the output and consistency in quality. In Flux (Limestone and Dolomite), RMD recorded a growth of 5.3% over last year with 1.4 MT despatch.
